Location: Beaune, Burgundy, France
Employer: Prestigious Organic Wine Estate
Salary: €25,000 - €30,000 per year (based on experience) + benefits
Are you passionate about viticulture and dreaming of a career surrounded by the world-renowned vineyards of Burgundy? A unique job opportunity in France awaits a motivated individual to join a dynamic team as a Winegrowing Worker (M/F). Our esteemed, certified organic wine estate, with vineyards spanning the illustrious appellations of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, is seeking a dedicated professional to contribute to the creation of exceptional wines from the ground up.
This is more than just a job; it's an invitation to become a custodian of a legendary terroir. If you have a foundational experience in vineyard work, a willingness to learn, and a genuine enthusiasm for teamwork, we encourage you to explore this rewarding role.
A Day in the Life: Your Role as a Winegrowing Worker
As a vital member of our team, you will be immersed in the entire annual cycle of the vine. Your work will be hands-on, varied, and deeply connected to the rhythms of nature. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Winter Pruning (Taille): This is one of the most critical tasks in viticulture. You will be responsible for carefully pruning the vines to control yield, ensure plant health, and set the stage for the upcoming harvest. Skill and precision in pruning are highly valued.
- Vine Training and Tying (Liaison et Palissage): After pruning, you will train and tie the canes to the wires, shaping the vine for optimal sun exposure and air circulation.
- Green Work (Travail en Vert): Throughout the spring and summer, you will participate in essential tasks such as debudding, trellising, leaf thinning, and green harvesting. This meticulous work helps the vine concentrate its energy on producing high-quality grapes.
- Soil Management: As a certified organic estate, we use sustainable methods to maintain soil health. You will be involved in ploughing, under-vine weeding, and managing cover crops.
- Harvest (Vendanges): The culmination of the year's work. You will join the team in hand-harvesting the grapes, ensuring they are picked at perfect maturity and handled with care.
- Vineyard Maintenance: Your role will also include general upkeep, such as dismantling old vines, planting new ones, repairing trellising posts and wires, and maintaining the borders and overall health of the vineyard ecosystem.
Teamwork and Autonomy: Finding Your Place
Our estate is organized around three key divisions in Chassagne, Beaune, and Brochon. We believe in fostering a collaborative spirit. You will be part of a supportive team where knowledge sharing is encouraged.
However, for candidates with significant professional experience, there is also the opportunity for greater autonomy. You may be entrusted to work independently on a specific set of plots, potentially under a task-work system (travail à la tâche), which rewards efficiency and skill.
Who We Are Looking For: The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a candidate who is not only skilled but also shares our passion for organic viticulture. The essential qualifications and attributes include:
- Practical Experience: At least one complete annual cycle of experience in a vineyard is required. We need someone who understands the rhythm of the seasons and the basics of vine care. Demonstrated skill in pruning is a significant advantage.
- A Valid Driver's License (Permis B): This is mandatory, as you will be required to operate the estate's vehicles between vineyard plots.
- Team Spirit: Desire, enthusiasm, and the ability to work harmoniously with a diverse team are essential. A positive attitude and strong work ethic will be highly appreciated.
- A Plus: A CertiPhyto (applicator) certificate would be a significant advantage, demonstrating your knowledge of safe and regulated phytosanitary practices, even within our organic framework.
No Formal Degree? Your Experience is Your Credential.
This job opportunity in France prioritizes hands-on skill and a strong work ethic over formal academic qualifications. If you have learned the trade through experience and have a proven track record in the vineyard, your application is welcome. We believe that passion and practical knowledge are the true foundations of a great winegrower.
Why Join Our Estate? More Than Just a Salary
We are committed to investing in our employees' growth and well-being. When you join our team, you can expect:
- Comprehensive Training: We will provide you with the necessary additional training to deepen your understanding of our specific organic methods and the nuances of our terroir.
- Motivating Remuneration: The basic salary range is €25,000 to €30,000 per year, commensurate with your experience and skills. Geographic location factors may also be considered.
- Attractive Benefits:
- 13th Month Pay: An additional month's salary, typically paid at the end of the year.
- Attendance Bonus: Rewarding consistent dedication and punctuality.
- Wines of the Month: A wonderful perk that allows you to enjoy and share the fruits of your labor.
- An Unbeatable Work Environment: Imagine working every day in the heart of Burgundy, among some of the most famous and sought-after vineyards in the world. This is a chance to build a meaningful career in a stunning environment.
